”I have known Kaitlin for a year and a half and I knew immediately that she was going to become someone so special in my life. I felt that she was my soul sister, which is not something I felt very many times over the course of my lifetime. When I met her I was at a point in my life where I needed to make some major changes, I was on a medication that I had been on for 4 and a half years, I was living with my daughter, my two grandsons and had taken on the role of co-parent, which took up an immense amount of my time. I was the cook, the taxi driver, the house cleaner, the sole provider. I was going into debt every month so I could take care of everyone but myself.

Enter Kaitlin.

We started with a weekly phone call where all I had to do was tell her about my week, but at that time, I could barely get out the words. My throat would lock up, my voice would crack and I could not even identify what my emotions were. Kaitlin would say, what I am hearing is… and she would somehow put into words exactly what I was feeling, help me identify the emotion behind the feeling and let me know it was all normal and ok.

As I mentioned earlier, I had been on medication for 4 ½ years, the medication I was on was Suboxone. I had been told that I would most likely need to take this medication for the rest of my life as people rarely got off this medication and if they did they usually relapsed. In November 2018, I mentioned to Kaitlin that I really wanted to get off this, she was so supportive, but not just supportive, she helped me come up with a plan of action.

She encouraged me to talk about it, get it out in the open, let my loved ones, my closest friends, and my woman’s group all know about my desire to get off the medication. Once I told everyone, she encouraged my friends and my women’s group to reach out to me and ask how they could support me and she did not do this just once, she did it over and over again.

She helped me realize that I was not in this alone, and the strength it gave me was unlike anything I had felt in a very long time. I was not someone who knew how to ask nor accept support from others; I was always the one providing support. Kaitlin showed me how to not only ask for support, but how to accept it as well.

In February 2019, I gave Kaitlin an actual date that I would stop taking the medication. I chose March 29 2019. During that last month, Kaitlin continued to reach out, to offer support, to make sure our group of women were also offering support and most of all she gave the guidance I needed to succeed.

I seriously do not feel I could have gone through this huge transition without the love and support that Kaitlin gave me, and continues to give me when I come across a situation where I could easily give up and let the fear overtake me.

She is my rock, I love this woman, and I am so grateful to have her in my life.

Kaitlin helps me in many aspects of my life.
